Aussie News: Desperate parents hope Scott Rush will be saved from Bali death row

The appeal of Scott Rush against his death sentences will begin next week. Rush is involve in the delivery of drug in Denpasar, Indonesia. The initial sanction was jail sentences. However, the court has altered the punishment to death sentences recently. This foments the discontent from the society and the supporters which include a local Catholic priest and a former president of the Islamic Council of Queensland oppose the decision by the court. This is due to the inconsistent in treating the convict. The other individual who is considered as courier of the drug, that included Rush, were jailed and didn’t sentenced to death. Parents of Rush are very dismay and sad and have traveled to Denpasar to witness their son for the last time most probably.

My Opinion:

The news reveals the unfair treatment on different people in the world of law and regulations. Individual who convicted similar crime can receive different punishment despite of law. It may probably happen due to the discrimination on the criminal by the court, no matter due to society status, financial status, races, nationality and many more. This plight should be stymied because it promotes the offense of law by the society as people can now harness their social status and financial position to exert influential pressure on the court. If this happens uncontrollably, the prestige of legal status will be dismantle and become an international laughing stock.
