Aussie News: Study shows memories can't be trusted

Statistics revealed that people usually embellish their memory when they convey the information to others in their conversation. When groups of people are thronged together to discuss about an incident, they pollute each other memory in their conversation. After the discussion, the people will own a single but inaccurate memory about an event. This research is conducted by University of Sydney. The main objective is to justify the trustworthiness about the witness memory by people. With the result, Ms Paterson, the lead professor of this study insisted that isolating the witnesses of an incident before the process of interrogation is vital to ensure that the statement given is not biased and reliable. Therefore, police should take into consideration the effect of unintended contamination of people memory in their investigation.
