Aussie NEws: Queensland solar power project in Cloncurry may burn up taxpayer dollars

The Queensland state government receives criticism from the public due to scheme to use sun to power the town. Courier Mail reveals that only four test panels and a fake tower behind a locked gate are build instead of a forest of 8000 mirrors. This scheme becomes a glare issue when this is a glitch on the technological aspect. The government blamed the light pollution for the failure of the scheme as the local may be exposed to the light from the plant. The scheme is supported by the government tax. The state government has earmarked $7 million for the project and $900,000 had been spent so far. Energy Minister Stephen Robertson reckons that tax obtained is worthwhile to invest in this sunrise field and the risk should be taken. The University of Melbourne is commissioned by the University of Melbourne had been commissioned by Ergon Energy and Lloyd Energy to prepare an independent report into "glare issues". The final report will be uncovered to the public.

My Opinion:

It is a wise act of Queensland Government to take a step to step into the field of solar power and energy. However, it is unwise to spend the money extravagantly without proposing a comprehensive plan. For sure, it will draw the public attention into this matter and government may face a hard time to counteract the public since the fault is oriented from the government. So Queensland government should readjust and redesign the original plan to make the scheme more assure toward the aims of generating energy from sun.
